The 1st Mindanao Fashion Summit

The Oro Fashion Designers Guild (OFDG) is inviting everyone to witness the 1st Mindanao Fashion Summit from August 1 to August 6 this year at Limketkai Center in Cagayan De Oro City.

Gil Macaibay's Creation

This weeklong event will showcase different fashion designers from all over Mindanao as well as some designers from Manila such as Frederick Peralta, Christian Espiritu, Renee Salud, Raoul Cheoke, Bo Parcon and Julius Tarog.

The intent of this event is to broaden fashion and brand awareness of all affiliated companies and organizations amongst the chic urban professional consumer community. It is designed and appealed to the tastemakers that take active roles in setting the mold for style in Mindanao and the hottest trends and over all ingenuity of Mindanaoan designers.

Merlene Marcelo: A Fashion Designer and An Achiever

A bride's dream is a wonderful wedding with everything just as perfect as she expects it to be and of course her wedding gown should be the best. There are many wedding gown designers who are on the row of fulfilling every bride's dream but only few thrives to be above the cut.

Ms. Merlene Marcelo, a wedding gown designer of 20 years, has been gaining crowns for her works. The world has recognized the beauty of her wedding designs as she recently received a certificate of award at the 19th Annual Asia-Pacific Excellence and 2011 Asia Pacific Excellence Award. Ms. Marcelo was awarded as Asia's Best Filipino Wedding Designer at the event held last March 22, 2011at the Gateway Mandarin Suites in Quezon City.

Ms. Marcelo was also awarded in 2009 as the Year's Most Outstanding Filipino Achiever for Couture and Entrepreneurship from the 28th Annual Dangal ng Bayan Awards and 2009 Who's Who in the Philippines Awards. The event was held on the 30th of December on that year at the Gateway Mandarin Suites.

Lumban Embroidery with Piñaflor

Lumban is known as the "Embroidery Capital of the Philippines". The art of hand-embroidering Barong and Saya has been the main specialty of the residents of Lumban.

Piñaflor, an embroidery business in Lumban, continues to support hand-embroidery and the use of piña fiber in making traditional Filipino wedding dress.  Nowadays, most designers would use modern gown fabric but Dra. Rhodora Peñaflor Añonuevo has chosen to preserve this tradition.
